Parshwanath Upadhye - 2023
A stellar performer, Parshwanath Upadhye has carved out a special niche for himself in the world of Indian Dance. His deep-rooted knowledge of Bharatnatyam comes from a disciplined study of the form under eminent Gurus, Shri Ravindra Sharma, Shri Kiran Subramanyam, Smt. Sandhya Kiran and Padmashri Sudharani Raghupati.
In recognition of his work, Parshwanath has been honoured with numerous awards, most recent of these is the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puruskar conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Adithya Birla Yuva Puraskara, Ram Gopal Best male dancer, Best Dancer at Madras Music Academy to name a few.
His dance is both intensely physical and deeply devotional. His prowess is manifold and extensive and reflects in the way the traditional is ever present and ever renewed in his presentations. He has conceptualised and choreographed ensembles works too. Punyah Krishna, Hara, Sat Gati, Abha and Naga Mandala to name a few. Apart from several margins created and presented by him at various prestigious venues, he has also presented Partha as a solo work.
Parshwanath resides in Bangalore India and heads Upadhye School of Dance and Punyah Dance Company of which he is the Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer. Along with Adithya PV and Shruti Gopal he is developing a Gurukula near his hometown of Belgaum to create a space for art and artists, which will be functional from July 2023.
